In the spirit of the season, the Athenica Team wants to give thanks to all of our wonderful clients who make our growth not just possible, but worthwhile. May this Thanksgiving be as joyful as you deserve, and the start of a happy holiday season and an even happier new year!

Elementary School Outreach
At Athenica, we strive to use every opportunity to educate people about what we do, recognizing that enhancing environmental understanding and awareness will benefit our clients, Site workers, and the general public. As environmental professionals, we feel that we have an obligation for environmental stewardship, and endeavor to share our vast knowledge, experience, and expertise, both on and off the job site.
Recently, Ken Wenz, a Professional Geologist and Senior Project Manager in Athenica’s HazMat Division, visited the fifth grade students at the Charles E. Schwarting Elementary School in the Plainedge (NY) Union Free School District. As part of the students’ science curriculum, Ken reviewed the Water Cycle (which was currently being studied by the students) and discussed Long Island’s geology, how the island was formed, and groundwater, using a model of the Long Island aquifer system. Ken also used the aquifer model to show the students how groundwater moves and how our actions can impact groundwater quality, which is important because groundwater is the source of drinking water for Long Island’s residents. The students were highly engaged in the discussion and asked excellent questions.
Are you part of a group that would be interested in hearing a presentation about what we do? Please contact Ken Wenz to discuss possible topics and availability.

Project Focus: Americas Society- 680 Park Ave., NYC
Americas Society headquarters at 680 Park Ave., is the New York home for artists, leaders, and decisionmakers from across the Americas as they gather to exchange ideas and debate the most pressing issues facing the Western Hemisphere. Over the past few years, work has been conducted to restore the building to its original beauty and Athenica Environmental was involved in conducting the asbestos inspections, inside and outside of the building, as well as air monitoring for asbestos removal.  Ivan Brice AIA, Principal of Ivan Brice Architecture, and the Lead Architect on the restoration project is pictured above with Spiro Dongaris, Principal at Athenica while attending the ribbon cutting ceremony on November 6th.
