Senior Project Manager oversees the overall performance of the hazardous materials (Haz. Mat.) Department. The Senior Project Manager will lead, manage and execute complex environmental projects from initiation through completion, ensuring technical excellence, client satisfaction, regulatory compliance, and financial success. This role requires strong leadership skills, business development acumen, and the ability to mentor junior staff while managing client relationships and Athenica’s collection of projects.
Success in this role will be measured by the ability to balance competing priorities such as schedule adherence, budget control, technical integrity, and client satisfaction — all while maintaining compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations. The ideal candidate will bring a combination of technical expertise, operational insight, and client-facing professionalism to effectively manage a diverse portfolio of large-scale environmental projects.
Duties and responsibilities
- Lead and manage multidisciplinary environmental projects, including site investigations, remediation, permitting, compliance, and sustainability initiatives.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, ensuring strong communication, satisfaction, and long-term relationship development.
- Develop project scopes, budgets, schedules, and deliverables in alignment with client and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee project teams, providing leadership, technical direction, and mentorship to staff at varying levels.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations and standards.
- Prepare and review technical reports, proposals, and presentations.
- Monitor project performance and implement corrective actions as needed to meet scope, schedule, and budget requirements.
- Support business development efforts, including proposal writing, client presentations, and participation in networking or industry events.
- Drive quality, safety, and risk management across all projects.
- Establishes overall objectives and deadlines for all projects,
- Identifies keys resources and assigns them for successful completion of projects,
- Serves as Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) officer for group,
- Performs final peer review of most project deliverables and proposals,
- Meets financial objectives by preparing budget, and analyzing project costs,
- As required, interacts with regulatory agencies and clients,
- Provides necessary technical and administrative training to Haz. Mat. staff,
- Assists the Principal and President with the recruiting of new staff and with the developing of existing staff.
Qualifications
The Senior Project Manager will require a minimum of twenty-five years of professional experience in the environmental consulting industry and have a degree in the environmental sciences and/or engineering fields (Master’s Degree preferred). Professional registration or certification preferred (e.g., PE, PG, PMP, CHMM). Proven track record managing complex environmental projects from start to finish Strong knowledge of environmental regulations (e.g., CERCLA, RCRA, Brownfield and OER; state and city specific programs).
Individual needs to possess excellent management and communication skills, both oral and written, as well as strong analytical abilities for the proper interpretation of findings and results. Also, the position requires a comprehensive understanding of relevant environmental regulations and applicable guidance documents pertaining to environmental site assessments (Phase I ESAs and Phase II ESAs) and remediation.
Working conditions
The position demands compliance with complex regulations and schedules established by clients. Due to the latter, some weekend work is required for completion of project deliverables.

Job Requirements

Job Responsibilities/Duties
- Conduct, manage and execute all Asbestos Abatement Survey & Designs for the Company
- Conduct & Oversee asbestos inspections, surveys, preparation of asbestos abatement design and oversee project monitors’ performing third-party air monitoring.
- Hazardous building surveys for the identification of mold, lead-based paint, and equipment containing polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and mercury.
- Extensive report writing, including preparation of detailed logs and data summary tables.

We are looking for a highly experienced professional with 10+ years of environmental consulting, particularly within New York City and New York State regulatory frameworks; i.e. OER and Brownfields.
Job Summary
The Environmental Project Manager will independently manage environmental investigation and remediation projects from planning through execution. This role requires strong leadership, technical, expertise, and the ability to oversee multiple projects with minimal supervision.
Key responsibilities include developing project scopes, budgets, and schedules; managing staff and subcontractor; preparing technical reports and proposals; and ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations.
This position also involves direct and regular communication with clients and regulatory agencies, as well as mentoring junior staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and manage project scope, schedule, and budget
- Lead project independently with minimal oversight from senior
- Oversee staff to ensure work is completed in accordance with project plans, regulations, and company standards

Job Summary
Asbestos Project Monitors / Air Sampling Technicians to serve as technical representatives on asbestos abatement projects across a variety of industries. We are open to training motivated individuals who have a strong work ethic and are interested in a long-term career in environmental health and safety.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise asbestos abatement activities to ensure full compliance with all Federal, State, and Local
- Perform air monitoring and determine final air clearance upon completion of abatement projects in and around the work Perform a detailed final visual for the completeness of the abatement and conduct final air clearance.
- Collect PCM and TEM air samples, maintain accurate chain-of-custody documentation, daily logs, and participate in project oversight and result reporting. TEM air samples as each project requires.
- Additional monitoring may involve Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) assessments, and asbestos or lead investigations and abatement oversight.
- Travel regularly within NYC (must have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license).

Required Qualifications

US/EPA licensed Lead-Based Paint Risk Assessor in New York State to perform risk assessments and inspections on a variety of sites, public and private.
Duties and responsibilities
- Perform XRF Inspections, lead risk assessments and record all data in an efficient and precise manner.
- Collect samples for determination of lead-based paint content.

Qualifications

- Willingness/ ability to use tablet for field
