Schools (Pre-K-12)

New York City Department of Education

Client: New York City Department of Education

Athenica is under contract with the New York City Department of Education (DOE) to perform lead-based paint inspections in all Pre-K classrooms throughout New York City. Inspections are performed in accordance with EPA/HUD regulations by visual inspection, by testing via an X-Ray Fluorescence machine, and if deemed necessary, by confirmatory paint chip sample collection for laboratory analysis.

When a lead-based paint hazard is identified, Athenica oversees an abatement contractor to ensure that EPA Lead-Based Paint Repair, Renovation and Painting (RRP) Rule protocols are followed. At the completion of any abatement, Athenica conducts lead dust wipe clearance sampling to ensure safe re-occupancy.

Rudolf Steiner School

Client: Rudolf Steiner School

When the Rudolf Steiner School, a private fully accredited college preparatory school, decided to undergo a full renovation of their two landmarked buildings in the heart of Manhattan, they placed their trust in Athenica’s expertise to guide them through the labyrinth of applicable local, state, and federal regulations.

Working alongside the school’s architect and engineer, Athenica reviewed the multimillion-dollar renovation scope of work and performed a thorough asbestos inspection of both buildings. When all asbestos was identified, Athenica prepared a detailed set of specifications for the abatement and oversaw and monitored the asbestos removal project.
